Carew Castle

Description: CAREW CASTLE was a gift to Gerald de Windsor in 1095 as part of his wife’s dowry, she was a Welsh princess, her maiden name being Nest. The castle over the centuries was altered and in the late 15th century new living quarters with stairs were built in time for a tournament celebrating Henry VII’s Tudor dynasty. Much of the castle still remains today. The Carew site incorporates the castle, the mill, a causeway, a medieval bridge and an 11th century Celtic Cross one of the three finest in Wales.
