Dover in Kent

Dover sits just 21 miles from the European continent. The town’s main attraction is the Dover Castle, which has defended the coastline of England since 1168. There are also tours given of the secret wartime tunnels first constructed during the Napoleonic war. They were expanded during the Second World War and used as a headquarters. Discovered in 1970, the Roman Painted House has some wall paintings, and other remains of an ancient Roman dwelling, including some mosaics. Another claim to fame for Dover are the majestic White Cliffs of Dover, which are best seen by a boat a few miles offshore. To learn more about Dover and its past, check out the White Cliffs Experience or the museum located below the White Cliffs gift shop.
