Abbey Village in Lancashire

The “perfect walk” can be experienced in Abbey Village. Between the moors of Bolton, Preston, and Blackburn, Abbey Village features scenic trails through lush meadows of wildflowers. A peaceful mile long trail cuts through the Withnell Nature Reserve and connects Abbey Village to the town of Withnell. This rural village used to be a stopover for travelers en route to Whalley Abbey and had developed around a mill, now closed since 1970. Located one mile south of Abbey Village is the medieval well house of Hollinshed Hall. Although the house is rumoured to be haunted, the well itself is considered to be “holy” and is open to the public.
