Cheddar in Somerset

Cheddar is the town from which the name of Britain’s most famous cheese comes from. Today you can still go to see real cheddar cheese being made. There are plenty of other old fashioned shops in the town such as a cooper, a potter and a fudge kitchen. The biggest attraction of Cheddar is Cheddar Gorge. This impressive limestone geological formation cuts through the earth revealing beautiful views. Beneath the gorge are the Cheddar Caves. Underground rivers eroding the rock formed these chambers. Today the chambers have amazing features shaped like organ pipes and waterfalls. Colored lighting and laser-lights have been installed to highlight all the different hues of the magnificent natural rock sculptures.
