Castle Coombe in Wiltshire

Castle Coombe is considered to be “the prettiest village in England.” Many of the town’s properties and buildings are hundreds of years old and have been declared ancient monuments. All that is left of the Castle which the town is named after are earthen works located where the castle used to stand. There are still other things to see in the village. There is the Village Museum, which is staffed by local villagers, which has many pictures and other artifacts and provides a glimpse into the history of the village. The Market Cross and the Roman Bridge are two more historic places of interest. The Dower House is an impressive building, which was Dr. Doolittle’s home in the movie shot in the village in 1966.
