Chepstow in Monmouthshire

CHEPSTOW also has a castle, another strategic fortress for hundreds of years. This castle was unusual in its structure as it was largely built of stone with no primary timber phase. A major exhibition "A Castle at War" reflects the changes of Chepstow throughout the Middle Ages. Chepstow Museum displays the development of the ancient town, once an important and busy market centre. Nearby are the ruins of Tintern Abbey in the Wye Valley which were occupied by the Cistercian monks. The Old Station can also be found in Tintern, a Victorian country branch line station, this has been converted into an award winning tourist attraction. Tintern is situated a few miles from Chepstow.
