St Ives in Cornwall

The old fishing village of St. Ives is now one of England's most well-known artist retreats. The narrow streets, quaint cottages and sandy beaches are popular with artists and tourists alike. Due to its extreme popularity, visitors pack St. Ives during the month of August. Other attractions at St. Ives include its fifteenth century St. Ives church. Made mostly from brown granite, the church houses the Lady Chapel, a sculpture of the Madonna and Child carved by the famous Barbara Hepworth. The sculptor had once lived in St. Ives and her house is now a museum of her life and her works. There is a Tate Gallery in St Ives which is a very popular attraction amongst the art lovers who flock here in summer.
