Bakewell in

Scenic and historic, Bakewell is an old Saxon town situated in the center of the Peak District National Park on the banks of the Wye River. Because of its antiquity, the town of Bakewell offers many interesting sites for visitors to enjoy from medieval buildings to Bath Gardens. The name Bakewell itself is derived from Badequella, which means Bath-well. Mentioned in Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice, Bakewell is quite a well-known town in England. It is also the home of the infamous Bakewell Pudding, a flaky almond-flavored tart that was concocted in the 1860’s as a result of a cook’s failed attempt at a strawberry tart.
With scenic lanes including the Monsal Trail, an 8-mile long path meandering north through Derbyshire’s limestone valleys to Wydale, Bakewell offers ideal places and monuments for photographing, sightseeing, and long relaxing walks. Haddon Hall is located two miles south of Bakewell.
