Colchester in Essex

Believed to be one of the oldest towns in the United-Kingdom, Colchester was one of the first Roman settlements in England. Colchester’s castle, or keep, was built in the eleventh century and was at that time the largest in Europe standing almost one hundred feet high. The castle exemplifies a true engineering feat even by modern standards. For a tasty enjoyment, Colchester hosts an annual oyster feast. A walk or a drive around the countryside enables one to enjoy the lush landscaped dotted by many historic buildings.
