New London Theatre

In the mid -1800's a public house stood on the site and provided entertainment under the banner of the Middlesex Music Hall. Rebuilt in 1911 by Frank Matcham it continued in the music hall tradition until being redecorated and renamed the Winter Garden in 1919. For most of the 1930's the theatre remained dark until it reopened in 1942, but closed for good in 1959. In 1965 the building was demolished to make way for the New London theatre designed by Paul Turtkovic, Sean Kenny and Michael Percival. Since 1981 the theatre has become the exclusive domain of Cats. The building was purchased by Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1991.
