This has a number of galleries located at 129/131 Albert Street. It was founded in 1932 and moved to its existing site in 1995. The museum traces the history and religious life of the Jewish community in Britain and abroad. Today it has one of the finest collections of Jewish ceremonial art which include a 16th century Venetian ark, the oldest English Hanukkah lamp, antique circumcision equipment, embroidered textiles and the like. In the history gallery one learns about the Jewish community from the time of the Normans; here one will see 18th century portraits, notched tax receipts and more. Although the museum’s exhibitions change from time to time it continues to hold exhibitions and educational programmes relating to the Holocaust and the experience of refugees during that time.
