Government

The United Kingdom is governed by the Labour Party whose party leader is Tony Blair; he is also the countries Prime Minister. Local Elections are held every year in different parts of the country. The ruling party is not elected in terms of who gets the most votes, but rather on who gets the most seats in parliament. Seats are gained in individual areas of the country or regions. Using a first past the post system because of the way the system works it is possible for the Party in Government to not have obtained the most amount of votes. Although this may seem unfair the system works because England very rarely has a hung parliament (where no one party has 50% of the seats), which has been a stumbling block for many other European countries like Italy.
