Chepstow Castle

Description: CHEPSTOW CASTLE was one of the first castles in Britain to be built of stone, the Normans started to build it around 1068, not long after the Battle of Hastings in 1066. In later centuries additions to the castle included towers, gatehouses and barbicans until the castle occupied the entire cliff backed ridge with a ravine on one side and the River Wye on the other. The castle was used as a prison for a short time.
